DNA testing - A curse or a boon?

The debate on whether or not to do DNA testing for establishing a father is going on with both sides of the coin equally painted. The test has a lot of merit and demerits also and there are two school of thoughts and followers of them in equal numbers.
The followers of the DNA test and its evidence of the father of a child would argue that now paternity like maternity is a certainty. There is no room for ambiguity and its related social upheavals that takes place within a family where the seed of doubt has been watered for long.
That there has been many an individual who has gone through an entire life span with this doubt of having been conned by a woman is a fact. Such people now have the opportunity to assure themselves of the truth behind the entire feminine facade if that is what their belief is. On the other hand women also get the opportunity of wielding a knowing and legal weapon at the men who try to shirk off the responsibility of bringing up a child.
There is the other side of this argument which places the blame of a broken and shattered society square upon the shoulder of such tests like the DNA for paternity. The age old concept of the children bearing the name of family and its genes for further ages called generations has been shattered by the DNA testing practice as per their argument.
During the times when such tests were not available it was based on trust and understanding and even compromise that a child was brought up in life and given a name of the family the father belonged to. That practice has now taken a jump for the simple test of DNA is resorted to at the smallest of doubt. Though this may establish the genetic match and thereby the paternity there is yet the fact that it creates a line of separation in the entire household that goes in for this test irrespective of the result.
